Archaeological and Historical Aspects of West-European Societies. Album Amicorum André van Doorselaer.

André Van Doorselaer (°Dendermonde 1930) acquired his MA at the University of Gent in 1953 with a dissertation on the Gallo-Roman graveyards in Belgium. In September 1956, he became a history teacher at the Sint-Jozef-Klein-Seminarie in Sint-Niklaas. This did not keep him from scientific research. In 1959 he became assistant at the University of Gent where he received his Ph.D. in History in 1962 with a thesis on the Gallo-Roman graveyards in northern Gaul.

Het zesde boekdeel in de reeks ‘Archeologie in Vlaanderen’ handelt over het colloquium ‘Visserij, Handel en Piraterij’ gehouden te Walraversijde van 21 tot en met 23 november 2003. Met dit colloquium werd een nieuw onderzoeksdomein geopend. De bijeenkomst leidde tot een eerste reeks bijdragen en discussies omtrent de geschiedenis en de archeologie van de leefwereld van de middeleeuwse en latere vissersgemeenschappen in het gebied van de Noordzee en van de Baltische Zee. Een eerste luik brengt de informatie over Walraversijde en onmiddellijke omgeving.
